Description

Service Answer engine optimisation (AEO) services

Answer engine optimisation is the work of making a page answer one question directly, near the top, in words that still make sense when lifted out of the page. WavX restructures existing pages this way, adds the dated and sourced facts they lack, and measures the result. It cannot promise a featured snippet, an AI Overview or a citation.

What answer engine optimisation is

A search engine returns a list of pages. An answer engine returns the answer, sometimes with a link to where it came from. Google's featured snippets and AI Overviews, Bing's AI summaries, Copilot, ChatGPT and Perplexity all work this way to some degree.

Answer engine optimisation (AEO) is the work of making your page the one that can be used for that answer. It has two parts. The page must state the answer plainly, near the top, in sentences that still make sense once they are lifted out of the page. And the statement must be worth using: specific, dated, and backed by something. What is answer engine optimisation? covers the term in more depth.

WavX offers AEO as page restructuring. It takes pages you already have, rewrites and lays them out to answer first, fills in the facts they are missing, and measures before and after. It sits inside the wider generative engine optimisation service , and usually follows an AI visibility audit .

What the engines say about page structure

The two large search companies do not say quite the same thing, and an honest service has to work with both.

What it says

What follows

Google, guide to generative AI features (updated July 2026)

"There's no requirement to break your content into tiny pieces for AI to better understand it." "You don't need to write in a specific way just for generative AI search." Headings and sections help human readers

Do not chop pages into fragments or write a separate version for machines. Structure that helps a reader is safe

Google, same guide

Content that is "unique, compelling, and useful" will likely influence presence, in the long run, more than any other suggestion in the guide. It contrasts this with commodity content that anyone could have written

The facts on the page matter more than its layout

Microsoft, guidance for AI search answers (October 2025)

Headings act as "chapter titles that define clear content slices". Question-and-answer pairs, lists and tables are easy to reuse. Sentences should make sense "even when pulled out of context"

Clear headings, direct answers and tables are worth doing for Bing and Copilot

Microsoft, same guidance

Do not hide important answers in tabs or expandable menus, rely on PDFs for core information, or put key information only in images

Move hidden and image-only content into the page's HTML

Nothing makes selection certain. These practices "improve eligibility"

Eligibility is the most that page structure can deliver

Princeton University and IIT Delhi researchers, KDD 2024

In a simulated engine, adding citations, quotations and statistics gave a 30–40% relative improvement on the main visibility measure. Keyword stuffing gave little to none

Sourced facts are the best-supported change to the text itself. The main test ran on a research engine fed pages that were already retrieved; a smaller check on Perplexity supplied the sources as uploaded files

Ahrefs, May 2026

1,885 pages that added schema, against 4,000 controls, showed no meaningful rise in AI citations

Markup is not a substitute for the content

Where the two companies differ, WavX follows the rule both accept: write and structure the page for the person asking the question. A direct answer under a clear heading helps that person, and it is also what Microsoft describes as easy to reuse.

What WavX changes on a page

Choose the pages and the questions. The starting list comes from Search Console: queries where a page already earns impressions but few clicks, plus the questions your sales conversations keep hearing. Each page is given one main question.

Check the page can be used at all. Indexed, eligible for a snippet, and with its text in the HTML the server returns. A page that fails here is fixed first, or the rewriting is wasted.

Put the answer first. WavX's working rule is an answer of 40 to 70 words directly under the heading, before any background. The sentence names its subject, so that it reads correctly on its own.

Give each question its own heading. Headings are written as the question or as a plain label for the answer, not as slogans.

Use tables and numbered steps where the content is a comparison or a procedure. Prices, plans, limits, timelines and steps are easier to read, and to quote, in that form.

Add what makes the page worth quoting. Prices with the month they were checked, limits, timelines, named standards, and a source for every third-party fact. This is where most of the effort goes, and it needs your team's knowledge.

Bring hidden content into the page. Text inside tabs, accordions, PDFs and images is rewritten as ordinary HTML.

Add an FAQ only where the questions are real. Any structured data must match the visible text, which Google lists among its best practices.

Record the change and measure. The date of each edit is logged, and the page's queries, impressions and citations are compared before and after.

A before and after

The example below is invented to show the pattern. The square brackets stand for facts that only the business can supply.

Before

Welcome to [clinic name], where your smile is our passion. Our experienced team offers a wide range of advanced dental solutions tailored to your individual needs. Get in touch with us today to find out more about our treatments and pricing.

After

A root canal at [clinic name] in Sector 56, Gurgaon costs [price range] as of [month and year]. The price includes [what is included]; a crown is charged separately at [price range]. Most cases need [number] visits. Treatment is carried out by [name and qualification].

What changed

Why

The first sentence answers the question a patient asked

An engine, and a reader, can stop after one sentence and still have the answer

The clinic and its location are named in the sentence

The sentence still makes sense when quoted without the rest of the page

The price carries a date

A reader can judge whether it is current, and the clinic knows when to recheck it

What is and is not included is stated

It removes the follow-up question, and it is the detail a generic page never has

A named, qualified person is attached

It is a fact about this clinic that no other page can copy

The "before" paragraph could sit on any clinic's website. The "after" paragraph could only be this clinic's. That difference is what Google's guide means by non-commodity content.

What you receive

A change sheet for every page worked on: the question it answers, the old opening and the new one, the facts added with their sources, and the structural changes made.

A writing standard for your team: a one-page set of rules and a page template, so that new pages are written answer-first without WavX.

The changes made on the site, where WavX has access. WavX works on Next.js, WordPress and Shopify sites directly. If you have your own developers, WavX specifies the changes and reviews them.

A before-and-after measurement, using Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and repeated prompt runs, as described under AI citation and referral tracking .

What AEO cannot promise

A featured snippet, an AI Overview or a citation. Google states that you cannot mark a page as a featured snippet. Its systems decide, and the other engines are no different.

A rich result from FAQ markup. Google's changelog records that the FAQ rich result is no longer shown in Search as of 7 May 2026.

More clicks. When an engine shows your answer, some readers will have what they need without visiting. A page that answers well may be seen more and clicked less. For most businesses, being the named source is still the better position, but it should be a decision.

Authority the business has not earned. A well-structured page from a business that nothing else on the web mentions is still competing with pages from businesses that are widely mentioned. Structure does not replace reputation.

When you should not buy this

The pages have nothing specific to say. Restructuring generic text produces tidier generic text. If the facts do not exist yet (prices, timelines, a process, real numbers), gathering them is the job, and it is mostly yours.

The site is small. With fewer than ten pages, the nine steps above are a checklist an owner or a writer can follow in a few days.

The pages are not indexed, or the site is blocked to crawlers. That is a technical fault. Start with the AI visibility audit or the SEO service .

The goal is Google AI Overviews specifically. Read optimising for Google AI Overviews and AI Mode first. Google says that no special optimisation is needed there, and the page explains what that leaves.

AEO is worth paying for when you have real answers that are buried: a price list in a PDF, a process described only in sales calls, or a long service page whose one useful paragraph is at the bottom.

Frequently asked questions

Is AEO different from SEO and GEO?

The labels overlap. AEO came first and described writing for featured snippets and voice answers; GEO describes writing for answers a model generates. Google's own guide says that, from its perspective, both are still SEO. In practice AEO is the content half of the work: how a page is written and laid out so that its answer can be found and quoted.

Does FAQ schema still help?

Less than it used to. Google's documentation changelog records that the FAQ rich result stopped appearing in Google Search from 7 May 2026, and Google says no special structured data is needed for its AI features. We still write FAQ sections where buyers ask real questions, because the visible question and answer is what gets read. Markup is added only where it matches what is on the page.

Can you get our page the featured snippet or the AI Overview?

No one can promise that. Google's documentation says you cannot mark a page as a featured snippet; its systems decide. The same applies to AI Overviews and to citations in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot. We can make a page eligible and easy to quote, and then report what happens.

How long before a restructured page is picked up?

The rewriting takes days. Recrawling is on the search engine's schedule: Google says crawling can take anywhere from several days to several months, depending on how often its systems decide a page needs refreshing. We record the date of each change so that later movements can be compared against it.

What does AEO cost?

WavX does not publish a price for GEO or AEO work. It is quoted after an audit, because the cost depends on how many pages need restructuring and how much of the missing information has to be gathered from your team.
