Description

Service Website redesign

A redesign replaces the design, structure or platform of a site that already has visitors, so the first job is to keep what works: the pages that rank, the URLs other sites link to, and the forms that bring leads. WavX audits the current site, maps every URL, rebuilds, and launches with redirects. The WavX cost guide starts a basic business-site redesign at ₹50,000 as a planning range.

Reskin, redesign or rebuild

These three are quoted under the same word and are very different jobs. Decide which one you need before asking for a price.

Job

What changes

What stays

Risk to search traffic

Reskin

Colours, typography, images, component styling

Platform, URLs, page structure, content

Low

Redesign

Navigation, page layouts, some content, sometimes URLs

Platform (often), the pages that perform

Medium

Rebuild or replatform

Everything, including the CMS or framework

The domain, and whatever the URL map preserves

High. Treat it as a migration

A reskin is right when the site works and looks dated. A redesign is right when visitors cannot find things or the layout does not serve the business any more. A rebuild is right when the platform itself is the obstacle: it is slow, insecure, unsupported, or cannot do something the business now needs.

What a redesign costs

The WavX guide to website redesign cost in 2026 prints these ranges. They are planning ranges, not quotes.

Project type in the guide

Planning range

Basic corporate website

₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000

Dynamic web app or CMS portal

₹1,50,000 to ₹5,00,000

Custom e-commerce store

₹2,50,000 to ₹6,00,000 or more

Enterprise custom portal

₹5,00,000 to ₹12,00,000 or more

Assumptions behind the numbers: the redesign keeps the existing domain, the content largely exists, and integrations are limited to those already in place. Later sections of the same guide give higher figures for larger programmes that add compliance work, AI features and system integrations. The table above is the guide's first table and is the one used on this page.

Two tools give a figure for your own scope. For a marketing or business website, use the website cost calculator . If the site is really a web application with logins, dashboards or payments, use the software cost estimator : its base for a custom web application is ₹4,50,000, which gives a planning range of ₹3,82,500 to ₹5,62,500 at small scale with standard design and no added features.

After launch, the guide budgets upkeep at 15 to 25% of build cost per year. A reskin on an existing platform is not covered by any published figure and is quoted after scoping.

What is in scope

Stage

What WavX does

Why it matters

Audit

Reads analytics and Search Console to find the pages that bring traffic and leads

These pages are protected through the project

Content inventory

Lists every URL and marks it keep, improve, merge or remove

Stops good pages being deleted by accident

UX review

Finds where visitors drop out or cannot find things

The redesign fixes real problems, not taste

Design

New layouts in Figma, phone first, using real content

Approval happens before code is written

Build

Front end and CMS, with content migrated

The site itself

URL map and redirects

Every old URL mapped to its new address

Carries search signals and inbound links across

Metadata and structured data

Titles, descriptions, headings and schema carried over or improved

These are often lost in a rebuild

Tracking

Analytics, conversion events and ad pixels re-installed and tested

Otherwise the before-and-after comparison is impossible

Launch and monitoring

Redirects verified, sitemap submitted, errors watched

Problems are found in days, not months

If the main complaint is usability and not appearance, a standalone UX audit can come first. It is cheaper than a redesign and sometimes shows that a few pages are the whole problem.

Protecting search traffic

Most redesign damage is done by changed URLs with no redirects, and by removing content that ranked. Google's documentation on site moves is specific about what to do, as of October 2026:

Prepare a URL mapping from the current URLs to the new ones before the move.

Use permanent server-side redirects from old URLs to new, such as HTTP 301 or 308.

Keep the redirects for as long as possible, generally at least one year.

Expect temporary fluctuation in ranking while Google recrawls and reindexes the site.

A small to medium-sized site can take a few weeks for most pages to move; larger sites take longer.

Change only one thing at a time.

The last point deserves attention. A project that changes design, content, URL structure and platform in a single launch is doing four things at once, and if traffic falls nobody can say which change caused it. Where the business allows it, WavX keeps the URLs unchanged through a redesign, or separates the URL change from the visual change.

WavX runs this part as a site migration , and the website migration SEO checklist lists the steps if your own team is handling it. No one can promise rankings after a redesign. The work reduces the avoidable losses. If a redesign has already gone live and traffic has fallen, start with traffic dropped after a redesign .

Speed belongs in the same conversation. A redesign that adds large images, video backgrounds and extra scripts can make the site slower than the one it replaced. Google's Core Web Vitals thresholds for a good experience are Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less. The new design is checked against them before launch, not after.

Timeline

The timelines WavX states on this site are 4 to 6 weeks for a simple website, as little as 7 days for a focused build, and 3 to 6 months for a complex e-commerce or ERP/CRM platform. A redesign follows this order:

Audit and inventory. Traffic, leads, URLs and content are recorded so there is a baseline to compare against.

Structure. Navigation and page list agreed, with the URL map drafted alongside.

Design. Key page types designed and approved in Figma.

Build and content migration. These run together. Content is almost always the slower of the two.

Pre-launch checks. Redirects tested against the full URL list, forms and tracking tested, performance measured.

Launch. Redirects go live with the new site, and the sitemap is resubmitted.

Monitoring. Search Console and analytics are watched for crawl errors, missing pages and lost conversions in the weeks after.

What to have ready

Access to analytics and Search Console, with as much history as exists.

Admin access to the current site, hosting and domain.

A list of what the current site fails at, in your words and your customers' words.

The pages, forms or features that must not break.

Who approves design and who approves content. One named person for each keeps the project moving.

Published work

WavX has not published a before-and-after redesign project, so none is shown here. Its published website work includes TrekNova, a Himalayan trekking-experiences website with tour listings with pricing, photo galleries, testimonials, gear and permits information and an enquiry flow, listed on the work page .

When a redesign is the wrong fix

The problem is traffic, not the site. A site that converts its few visitors well does not need a new design. It needs more visitors, which is a search or advertising job.

The problem is one page. If the checkout, the enquiry form or the pricing page is where visitors leave, fix that page. A full redesign spends most of its budget on pages that were fine.

The site is slow. Speed can often be fixed on the existing design by working on images, scripts and hosting, at a fraction of the cost of a redesign.

A new theme would do. On Shopify or WordPress, changing or customising the theme is usually cheaper than a rebuild and keeps the URLs.

The site is merely old. Age is not a reason. A plain site that ranks and brings enquiries is an asset, and replacing it carries risk for no return.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website redesign cost in India?

Our redesign cost guide gives ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 for a basic corporate website, ₹1,50,000 to ₹5,00,000 for a dynamic site with a CMS, and more for e-commerce and custom portals. These are planning ranges, not quotes. The figure for your site depends on page count, content migration and integrations, and is quoted after an audit.

Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?

It can, and nobody can promise that it will not. Google's own guidance says to expect temporary fluctuation after any significant change. The risk is reduced by keeping URLs where possible, redirecting every changed URL with a permanent redirect, and keeping the content that ranks. We plan those before design starts.

How long does a redesign take?

The timelines WavX states are 4 to 6 weeks for a simple website, with a focused build in as little as 7 days, and 3 to 6 months for a complex e-commerce or ERP/CRM platform. Content is the usual cause of delay: rewriting, approvals and migration take longer than the build.

Can you redesign the site and keep our current CMS or platform?

Often, yes. A reskin on the existing platform is the cheapest option and carries the least search risk. We recommend changing platform only when the current one blocks something the business needs, and we say so after the audit.

Do we need to rewrite all the content?

No. Pages that bring search traffic or leads should usually keep their content and their URL. The audit separates pages to keep, pages to improve, pages to merge and pages to remove, so rewriting effort goes where it will matter.
