Description
Solution Salon and spa booking software
WavX builds salon and spa software around stylists, chairs and rooms: online booking that respects service length and staff skills, packages and memberships, retail and consumable stock, commissions and GST billing. A front-desk system for one salon plans at about ₹2.7 to ₹4 lakh on the WavX estimator. A single salon is usually better served by a ready-made product; custom pays off for chains and brand-led studios.

What WavX builds
WavX builds salon and spa software as a custom web application for the front desk and the owner, with online booking on your website and an optional customer app. It suits unisex salons, spas, nail and lash studios, bridal studios, skin and hair clinics without medical procedures, and small chains. It is one of the custom software and business systems WavX offers.
A salon's scheduling problem is harder than it looks. A booking is not just a time; it is a service of a certain length, done by a stylist who has that skill, often in a particular chair or room, sometimes followed by a second service with someone else. Ready-made products handle the common cases well. They struggle with the uncommon ones, which is where most custom builds start:
Several outlets sharing customers, memberships and stylists who move between branches.
Packages and memberships with rules of your own: shared family balances, validity extensions, services that count double at weekends.
Commission structures that differ by service, product, stylist grade or target.
A brand-led customer app that belongs to the salon, not to a marketplace.

Booking that matches how the salon works
Four rules decide whether online booking helps or causes chaos at the front desk:
Duration belongs to the service and the stylist. A senior stylist may cut faster than a junior; a colour service has processing time when the stylist can take another client.
Resources are finite. A spa has a fixed number of rooms; a pedicure needs the pedicure chair.
Gaps cost money. The calendar should offer slots that avoid leaving 20-minute holes nobody can fill.
Deposits for long bookings. Bridal and long colour bookings without a deposit are the most expensive no-shows.
On Google, you can add your own booking link to your Business Profile, which sends customers to your booking page. As of October 2026, Google's help pages describe the integrated booking button as coming through booking providers that work with Reserve with Google, and a provider joins through Google's Actions Center. That is a separate application to Google, not part of a normal salon build. The guide on adding online booking to your website covers the simpler routes.
Packages and memberships: money you already owe
A prepaid package is money taken for services not yet given. A salon that sells packages freely and tracks them on cards or in a spreadsheet often cannot say how much service it still owes its customers, which matters when a stylist leaves, an outlet closes or the business is sold.
The software should answer these questions on one screen:
Question
Why it matters
How much unredeemed package value is outstanding, by outlet?
It is service you owe; it should not be counted as free cash
Which packages expire this month?
A reminder before expiry brings the customer back; silent expiry loses them
Which stylist delivered each redeemed service?
Commission is usually paid on delivery, not on sale
Which packages were extended, transferred or refunded, and by whom?
These are where discounts and mistakes hide
Membership benefits work the same way. Each one is a rule the billing screen must apply without the desk remembering it, which is why memberships are often the module that tips a salon from a ready-made product to a custom one. Larger programmes with points and referral codes are covered on the loyalty systems page.
GST on the bill
The GST Council's 56th meeting reduced GST on beauty and physical well-being services, which its FAQ says includes health clubs, salons, barbers, fitness centres and yoga, from 18% to 5% without input tax credit, from 22 September 2025. Whether a particular spa or wellness service falls in that group is for your CA to confirm. Products sold over the counter are goods with their own rates, so one bill often carries two rates. Packages sold in advance raise their own questions about when tax is due. The software should let your CA set the rate on each service and product rather than fixing it in the code. This describes the software, not tax advice.
Reminders and messages
Confirmations and reminders on the WhatsApp Business API go from the salon's number automatically. Meta has charged per message since 1 July 2025; as of October 2026 its pricing page lists marketing, utility and authentication templates as charged, with utility templates and ordinary replies free inside an open customer service window. "Your next appointment is due" messages sent weeks later are templates and cost money each time, so they belong in the running budget.
What it costs to plan for

How the build runs
A busy day at the desk. Watch a Saturday: walk-ins, overruns, a stylist off sick, a package redemption. The calendar rules come from this.
Service and price list. Every service with duration, price by grade, and which staff can do it.
First release. Calendar, billing, customer records and reminders, used in the salon.
Online booking. Switched on once the calendar reflects reality, so customers never book a slot the desk cannot honour.
Packages, commissions and stock , then the customer app for chains.
When a ready-made product is the better buy
Do not commission a custom build if:
You run one salon with a standard menu. A ready-made product gives you booking, billing and reminders for a monthly fee, this week.
Most of your bookings come from a marketplace app. Then the marketplace's tools matter more than your own system.
You cannot keep the service list and staff skills up to date. Online booking built on a stale menu creates more front-desk work, not less.
Custom software earns its cost for chains, for salons whose packages and commissions are their competitive edge, and for brands that want the customer relationship in their own app.
What to have ready before asking for a quote
Number of outlets, chairs, rooms and staff.
Your service menu with durations and prices.
How packages, memberships and commissions work today, with an example of each.
The software or registers you use now and what goes wrong with them.
Which systems it must talk to: a payment gateway, your website, WhatsApp, your accounts.
Frequently asked questions
How much does custom salon software cost?
On the WavX software cost estimator, a front-desk system for one salon plans at roughly ₹2,72,000 to ₹4,00,000, and a system with online booking, prepayment and an admin panel at ₹6,37,500 to ₹9,37,500. A branded chain with a customer app plans higher. These are planning ranges, not quotes.
What GST rate should the software charge on salon services?
The GST Council's September 2025 release reduced GST on beauty and physical well-being services, naming salons and barbers among them, from 18% to 5% without input tax credit, from 22 September 2025. Retail products sold at the counter are goods with their own rates, and whether a particular spa or wellness service is covered is for your CA to confirm. The software should let your CA set the rate per item.
Can customers book my salon from Google?
You can add your own booking link to your Google Business Profile, and it will take customers to your booking page. Google's integrated booking button comes through booking providers that work with Reserve with Google; becoming one is a separate application to Google, not part of a normal build.
Should a single salon build its own software?
Usually not. Ready-made salon products handle appointments, billing and reminders for a monthly fee and start at once. Build when you run several outlets, sell memberships and packages the products cannot express, pay commissions on rules of your own, or want a branded app your customers keep.
Can it run a loyalty or membership programme?
Yes. Prepaid packages, memberships with benefits, points and referral codes can all be part of the build. For larger programmes, our loyalty systems page covers the rules engine in more depth.
